Brain Tumours

A brain tumour is a growth of cells in the brain that multiplies in an abnormal, uncontrollable way. Queen Square Neuroscience Centre can treat these tumours with Gamma Knife Radiotherapy.

Meningioma

Meningioma is a type of primary brain tumour from the meninges, the membranes that surrounds the brain and, on rare occasions, the spinal cord. Meningiomas can start anywhere in the brain and spinal cord but are more common in the cerebrum and cerebellum. The majority of meningiomas are benign (i.e non-cancerous). Meningiomas that are malignant (cancerous) account for about 1% of all primary brain tumours.

Glioma

Gliomas are cancerous brain tumours that start in glial cells. These are the supporting cells of the brain and the spinal cord. Some types of gliomas grow faster than others.

Brain Metastases

When cancer that began somewhere else in the body spreads to the brain and causes a mass or brain tumor, it’s called metastatic brain cancer. The resulting tumours are called brain metastases.
